How can theory happen in a contemporary dance institution? How can we enact a community around dance theory? What intersections can we find between different research practices and types of engagement with dance theory?
The team of Tanzquartier Wien recently welcomed an in-house theory curator; a role expanding the presence and forms of theory in Tanzquartier. The new theory programme – which will include lectures but also conference, workshop and discussion formats – will start in January 2022. Until then, we are collecting insights into the views and needs of those primarily concerned (academic and independent theorists, artists, students…). In this context, a discussion session to exchange on the programme, open to everyone interested, is planned on Monday, October 4, 17.00 to 19.00, at Tanzquartier Studios: an opportunity to present the programme’s main axes, receive feedback, discuss ideas, and, maybe, take a step towards the formation of a dance theory community.
