This workshop will explore the darker side of Play, inhabited by the Bouffons.
Living on the edge of society, Bouffons are the dark reflection of the Clown.
Rejected because they are considered deformed, mad, ugly, morally corrupt and evil, the
Bouffons mock and make fun of the hypocrites that surround them. Their mere existence challenges the morals and authority of everyone.
The Bouffons relish and play with the unacceptable, to reveal the hypocrisy all around them. Their tools are parody, satire and relentless mocking of the „beautiful people“. We laugh at the clown. The bouffon makes fun of us.

Der Workshop richtet sich an Clowns, Artist*innen, Pantomimen, Schauspieler*innen,
Akrobat*innen, Tänzer*innen, Performer*innen und an alle interessierte Menschen.

Gerry Flanagan is Artistic Director of Shifting Sands Theatre – founded in 1998 to create and tour stimulation clown theatre that is both comic and moving. He has taught clown and related subjects for over twenty years at the Circus Space, Greentop and the City Literary Institute London, as well as in universities, colleges and schools. |

He has worked with many companies including the David Glass Ensemble, Complicite |

& Bubble Theatre. He worked in Italy, teaching clowning and performing with Clown Selvaggio. |
