Please be aware that to ensure quality the number of participants will be limited to 20.

THEMES COVERED OVER THE 2 WEEKENDS

THE COUNTING PROCESS
In this section, we will analyze the most important time signatures and rhythms, discussing the pulse, the subdivisions and the accents. The analysis will focus on the theory as well as on rhythmic exercises and practical examples which can then be transmitted to the students.

RECOGNIZING TIME SIGNATURES
In this chapter we will learn how to recognize time signatures by ear and which instructions to give our students to have a more attentive and active approach to music.

BALLET VOCABULARY ANALYZED THROUGH MUSIC
Each exercise of the ballet class (from Plié to Grand Allegro) will be analyzed through its connection with the music: dynamics, time signatures, musical accent and accent of the step.

THE USE OF VOICE
How to use the voice during class as a music instrument capable of transmitting emotions as well as important pedagogical and didactic information.

THE CHOICE OF MUSIC
We will discuss how choosing different time signatures and rhythms impacts the outcome of an exercise.

GETTING INSPIRED BY MUSIC
In this chapter, we will explore the diverse meanings music can hold. We will discuss how the choice of music can elicit different responses in students.

CHOOSING MUSIC FOR YOUNG CHILDREN
This section is dedicated to the difficult task of teaching the younger dancers (5/6 and 7/8 years old).

All the themes will be first be approached theoretically and will then be put into practice through exercises in which the participant can experience, experiment and have an active approach to the material.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Sandro Cuccuini is a composer, pianist and ballet accompanist. Since 1995, he has worked and collaborated with the most renowned institutions of which the Staatsballet Berlin, the Royal Conservatory of Scotland and the Alvin Ailey Dance theatre to name a few. Over the past 15 years he was lecturer in “music applied to dance” for both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing”. He is also the composer and author of 3 discs of music for ballet class “Music for Ballet vol. 1, 2 and 3”.
