'The enlightened world, while I am awake', is the verse of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, motto of this year's edition in which up to 47 premieres, 23 of them absolute, will be enjoyed in the different spaces of the city of La Mancha. In total a programme with 68 companies that perform 144 functions, 99% of them on Siglo de Oro originally written in Spanish. Mexico, Guest Country of Honor, offers a transversal vision of its incomparable viceregal heritage with theater, dance and other activities from the Federal Government, Mexico City and the states of Guerrero, Jalisco and Guanajuato.
The Almagro International Festival of Classical Theatre is currently considered the most important of its kind in the world dedicated to the theatre of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, both from east and west, held over 25 days at almost twenty different venues. The Festival is a place for performance but also a meeting hub for creators, professionals, and specialists of diverse fields in Baroque theatre, like teachers, researchers, critics, directors, actors, producers, stage designers, playwrights, specialized journalists, technicians and managers.
